New Build Ducted Air Conditioning Installation Case Study

This case study covers a concealed ducted air conditioning installation Eaglereach carried out in a new-build home, where the customer wanted whole-house cooling and heating without any visible wall-mounted units.

The team at Eaglereach Mechanical were contacted by a customer who had recently purchased a new-build home and were looking for advice on the most appropriate air conditioning system. Our team visited the homeowner to conduct a free consultation and site survey.

New-build houses typically have fantastic insulation, and that was certainly the case here. Great insulation keeps the house warm in winter, but the downside is that during summer months it traps heat and the house can become uncomfortably warm.

Hot bedrooms are particularly challenging at night and can lead to poor sleep, which is even more of a problem with young children. This is something we see regularly in flats and modern builds where airtight construction holds heat in.

Our team talked through the different air conditioning systems available. The homeowner wanted effective cooling but was concerned about how wall-mounted units might affect the look of their new home.

This is a familiar request – many homeowners don’t want air conditioning units on display, which is why ducted systems are increasingly popular.

Our solution

We recommended a ducted air conditioning system. A ducted unit cycles conditioned air through the home via concealed ductwork in the loft.

The ducts work like the veins of your home, supplying cooled or heated air to each room and returning unconditioned air back to the system.

The air vents are the only visible part of the installation. Supply vents blow conditioned air into the rooms, and return air vents pull air back into the system to be cooled or heated again.

Our team installed a Mitsubishi Heavy ducted unit, which was compact enough to fit through the loft hatch but still highly efficient.

Everything is concealed in the loft, out of sight. The only items visible inside the house are a small controller and the ceiling grilles.

The customer now has a house with cool air in summer, warm in winter, and still looks fantastic because nothing is on display.

If you’re not sure whether a ducted system is right for your home, our guide to which air conditioning system is best compares the main options including split wall units, multi-split systems, and ceiling cassettes.
