What's included in the price

  • The indoor unit and the outdoor condenser
  • A standard pipe run and cabling between the units
  • Mounting, commissioning and testing of the system
  • Installation by an F-Gas registered engineer
  • Tidy pipework, removal of packaging and a clean handover

What affects the cost

  • Number of rooms and units – each extra indoor unit adds to the price.
  • Type of system – wall units are the most affordable, ducted the most expensive.
  • Pipe run and access – longer routes, upper floors or scaffolding add to the cost.
  • Brand – Midea is a lower-cost option, while Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin are premium. See how the brands compare.
  • Property type – some homes, such as listed buildings, need discreet solutions that affect the spec.

Installation cost FAQs

How much does it cost to install air conditioning in one room?

Most single-room installations start from around £1,350 fully fitted, and typically run between £1,350 and £2,500 for a wall-mounted unit, depending on the size of unit the room needs and how easy the outdoor unit is to reach. Use the calculator above for a personalised estimate.

How much does it cost to install air conditioning in a whole house?

A concealed ducted system for whole-house cooling starts from around £3,500, while a multi-room system running several indoor units from one outdoor unit is quoted individually at a free survey, as it depends on the number of rooms and the layout.

Do I need an F-Gas registered engineer to install air conditioning?

Yes. Any fixed system that uses refrigerant must legally be installed by an F-Gas registered engineer, both for safety and to keep your manufacturer warranty valid.

Does the price include heating as well as cooling?

Yes. Modern units are reverse-cycle heat pumps, so the same system both cools in summer and heats in winter from the same indoor unit, at no extra installation cost.

Does the calculator replace a site survey?

No. It gives a reliable starting point so you know roughly what to expect. The final price is confirmed at a free on-site survey, where Nick checks the room, glazing, pipe route and power supply.
